Femke de Groot

Textile Art

Meet the Artist

Born in the Netherlands, Femke de Groot creates work deeply rooted in nature and the memories of her childhood. Her sculptural textile landscapes, “woolscapes”, blend fine art and craftsmanship through embroidery and tufting techniques. Inviting a tactile and sensory experience, her pieces use soft, earthy palettes that draw the viewer into calm, contemplative scenes.

Balancing abstraction and figuration, her work echoes the simplicity of Japanese woodcuts and minimalist landscapes. Each piece is meticulously constructed with diverse yarns, generating rich and dynamic textures. Her studies at the Art Academy Utrecht, combined with a background in fashion management and architecture, have shaped her refined understanding of materials, form, and technique. This interdisciplinary foundation results in artworks that feel both intimate and expansive.

Sustainability

Sustainability plays a central role in her practice: she works with locally sourced yarns and reuses every leftover thread.
